Sealed, 1" pitch, high performance dry-air 6U chassis incorporates seven heat exchangers, 32, 36 or 46 super conductive heat pipes & air re-circulation fans inside. This minimum maintenance ATR is ideal for applications where ambient air is laden with hostile or harmful contaminants.
Heat is conducted to hollow sidewalls, top cover, bottom cover & rear panel heat exchangers where it is dissipated to the ambient environment by forced air rear fans or by vehicle air plenum. Two additional internal card-cage heat exchangers recirculate air & 32-46 integrated heat pipes provide fast passage for heat to exit the internal card-cage. Internal air recirculation fans ensure constant airflow across modules.
The 6U SEVENHEX-CHP chassis is available in 5, 7 & 12 slot versions, supporting Gen 3/4/5 VPX backplanes. Total PSU power of up to 1200 watts may be installed. Custom modifications can be designed upon request.
Internal layout is divided into 4 independent metallic partitions. I/O section at the front, card-cage, PSU section & exhaust fans at the rear. This improves EMI/EMC performance & reduces PSU noise on system electronics.
This 1" pitch chassis has been designed exclusively for VPX wedgelock IEEE P1101.2, VPX VITA 46.0/.1/.10/.3/.4/.7 conduction cooled modules.

CM 6U SEVENHEX-CHP military backplanes are 100G Gen 4 rated, available in VPX 1" pitch format with 0.8" pitch module compatibility. This latest generation of high performance backplane is fitted with VITA 46.30 MultiGig RT3 Tyco connectors for high speed 'board-to-bus' transmission.
SEVENHEX-CHP backplanes are fitted with Dual Temperature Supervisory Units for independent temperature control of system devices (heaters, fans, etc.). The backplane drives two front panel LED indicator sets (16 LEDs in total), providing all system status information and four user definable LEDs for customer applications.
The SEVENHEX-CHP has been developed in compliance with VITA 46.3, VITA 65, VITA 66.5 and VITA 67 standards. High Speed Tachyon 100G PCB substrate material or Megtron 7 ensures the backplane delivers truly exceptional performance.
SEVENHEX-CHP backplanes have been specifically developed in alignment with the SOSA™ technical standard, delivering high current in +12VDC and +3.3VDC. The SEVENHEX-CHP backplane mates with a single or twin PSU modules that supply 600 watts each (+12VDC @ 42A and +3.3VDC @ 23A) to support even the most demanding VPX modules.
A SEVENHEX-CHP backplanes are customized to each customers requirements. Backplanes are developed using Allegro high speed design tools with critical emphasis on trace length and impedance matching of all differential and single tracks.
CM undertake complete backplane customization according to customer VPX topology and I/O requirements, delivering a fully 'turn-key' solution.
Backplane wiring integration is facilitated by a 60mm bottom cavity clearance and a 63mm clearance behind the enclosure front panel for connector I/O.
The SEVENHEX-CHP backplane is fitted with Class 1 military power input connectors that offer reliable shock & vibration interconnectivity between the backplane and PSU module(s). They allow for high DC current rates with low voltage drops & minimum contact heating.

6U SEVENHEX-CHP (1'' Pitch) chassis PSUs support a wide variety of AC/DC input voltages (MIL-STD-704 & MIL-STD-1275) and a defined DC power output of 600 or 1200 watts. This line of 600 watt PSU modules have been exclusively developed in alignment with the SOSA™ Technical Standard.
All PSU models are fitted with Power Fail Monitor, remote voltage sensing, output voltage trim-up, time-delayed protection fuses, rear fan fuse and DC/DC converter remote shutdown.
To comply with MIL-STD-461E, a high capacity integrated EMI/EMC input voltage filter is fitted as standard on all 6U models.
Front-end FIAM modules are protected against DC reverse polarity. An optional reverse polarity diode may be fitted in series with power connector input pin IN (+).
Single-phase AC PSUs are fitted with a VICOR military Filter and Autoranging Rectifier Module (FARM) to provided EMI filtering, autoranging line rectification and inrush current limiting to meet MIL-STD-461E category A1b specifications for Electromagnetic Compatibility.
DC PSUs are equipped with a VICOR military Filter and Attenuator Module (FIAM). This front-end device is fitted prior to the DC/DC converters to provide EMI filtering, inrush current limiting and transient protection.
200VAC 3-Phase PSU versions additionally incorporate AC/DC rectifier stage prior to the VICOR FIAM front-end modules.
6U SEVENHEX-CHP (1'' Pitch) model PSUs incorporate isolated DC/DC converters and oversized hold-up capacitors to ensure proper operation during short power line failures. Outputs are protected against short-circuit, thermal-shutdown etc. PSUs are custom made to match the enclosure mechanics.
The PSU
in SEVENHEX 1" pitch models is attached to a heat exchanger panel that provides both conduction and convection cooling. Internal air recirculation dissipates heat generated by the PSU through its panel via thermal conduction to the chassis frame.
Forced air that is drawn through the heat exchangers, passing over the PSU panel external fins & exhausted, removing the majority of heat.
